Samantha Keely Smith
Samantha Keely Smith‘s artwork represents a striving to reconcile the inner world of instinct and the tidal sweep of our emotional life, with an external world that is both beautiful and hostile in its natural grandeur. She attempts to map the place where these worlds intersect. The translucent layers of paint, contrasting soft ethereal brushwork and harder edged sweeping gestures, echo this divergence and depict a timeless place that hovers between dream and reality in a way that is simultaneously alluring and menacing. The work exhibits the struggle between and among the variety of human impulses: impulses that are as necessary as they are contradictory, and which therefore constantly undermine our psychic and social coherence even as they endow us with vitality, soul, and life.

"The works of Lukasz Wodynski are a a combination of the polemicizing process which every living creature undergoes. Wodynski is interested in the horizontal system of the axis of birth, life, death and defecation of a human organism. He’s constantly Intrigued by the conflict between the appearances and the essence of being, these contrasts are the foundation of the system. Every art nude is simultaneously a question about sexuality and self-awareness of the individual. By creating single situations, figures, gestures and forms Wodynski’s attempt to explore the mystery and alchemy of being, in what is mysterious and dark, colorful and noble, material and timeless within us."
"Better alone than badly accompanied."
"if you removed everything you dislike about yourself, what would be left?"

Sunday—feeling nostalgic for life a year ago; listening to music I practically inherited from my father; craving for my usual movies (hello The Breakfast Club and Girl, Interrupted) because my laptop isn’t with me; rereading poems I’ve copied on my notebook over the months, and copying new ones; mostly, pondering upon my propensity for violence.
"Introverts don’t get lonely if they don’t socialize with a lot of people, but we do get lonely if we don’t have intimate interactions on a regular basis."
I have never related to a quote more in my life than I do this one right here, right now. BAM. (via kbfoto
